What Is a Portable Deck and Why Are So Many Indiana Homeowners Choosing One?

If you've been thinking about adding a deck to your home, you've probably gone down the rabbit hole of getting quotes, figuring out permits, and wondering how long a construction crew is going to be parked in your yard. That whole process can take months. A portable deck is a completely different approach, and once people understand how it works, it usually makes a lot of sense.

Here's the basic idea. At Timbercraft Decks, we build your deck start to finish at our shop in Osgood, Indiana. We're not cutting lumber in your driveway or hammering nails outside your bedroom window for two weeks. All of that happens at the shop where we have the right tools, a controlled environment, and a crew that does this every single day. When the deck is done, we load it on a trailer and bring it to you.

Setup day is usually pretty quick. We pull in, get the deck positioned, and you're walking on it the same afternoon. There's no big construction mess, no pile of leftover materials to deal with, no waiting around for the deck to be finished so you can use it. Most customers are surprised how quickly everything comes together. In many cases, we're setting the deck in place in the morning and you're enjoying it that afternoon.

People use our decks for all kinds of situations. Front porches and back decks are the most common. Mobile home owners also love them because stick-built decks attached to a manufactured home can get complicated and void warranties. Our freestanding design avoids a lot of those headaches. RV owners at campgrounds and private lots get them to turn their site into an actual outdoor living space. Above-ground pool owners use them to build a proper pool deck that matches the height of the pool so you can step out instead of climbing down a ladder.

Because the deck is freestanding and not attached to your home's structure, it typically doesn't require a building permit. That's not true in every county, but it applies in a lot of places. We can talk through your specific situation when you reach out for a quote.

We deliver free within 75 miles of our shop in Osgood. That covers most of Indiana, parts of Northern Kentucky, and Western Ohio. If you're a little further out, we can still get to you for $250 extra (up to 150 miles).

And if the upfront cost is the thing holding you back, we have rent-to-own financing with no credit check. No bank, no credit pull, no long application. You pick your deck, agree to a monthly payment, and we deliver it. That's it.
